Athens and Ohio University are known for many things. We are nationally-recognized for academic excellence. We are famous for our scenic hillsides and majestic beauty. And we are known for having more bars on one small street than anywhere else in the country.
Court Street in Athens Ohio is truly unique.

If you look at all of the bars in the small uptown Athens area, you have more than 20. And while there are a lot of bars, each one has its own unique environment.
11, or 20… depending on how you count ’em
Some have been in Athens for decades such as The Pub. Some are very new, such as the North End Kitchen + Bar. Some serve food, while others focus on drinks.
Some are geared more toward an older crowd. Some are more popular with fraternity and sorority members. Some are popular with the progressive crowd. Some have amazing live music. Some even have musicians playing outside, right on Court Street. Each one has something special.
And because Athens is a small town, each bar is within walking distance to Athens Ohio rentals. Students and local citizens can walk to Court Street easily from their Athens Ohio apartments.
Customers often move from one bar to another through the evening (or the day if you prefer). The bars are close enough to move around easily, but they are often worlds apart inside.
The best way to experience the magic of Court Street, of course, is to spend time there with friends. You will likely make new friends, too.
