Ohio University Basketball Teams Are Ready for the Tournament
It’s time for March Madness for the Ohio University Bobcats. Bobcat fans in Athens and all around the country will be cheering on the teams this spring.
In 2021, the men’s basketball team won the Mid-American Conference tournament championship. That win sent them to the NCAA Tournament, where they defeated defending champion Virginia in the first round. They lost in the second round, but received a great deal of national attention for their tournament success.
This year, the men’s and women’s teams have had solid seasons and both are hoping for success in the tournament.
The men’s team started off the season very strong and has been near the top of the MAC all year. With one week to go in the season, the team has a record of 23-6.
The team is led by star guard Mark Sears and senior big men Jason Carter and Ben Vander Plas.
The Bobcats likely will be a top three seed in the MAC tournament, held in Cleveland March 10-12. The team has been very good on defense all season, but the offense has been somewhat inconsistent. If a few shooters can get hot in the MAC tournament, the Bobcats have a great chance to repeat.
Conference rivals like Toledo, Kent State and Buffalo are all very good. It should be a fun tournament to watch. Hopefully, the experience from last season will help the Bobcats repeat as champions.

The women’s team is led by star Cece Hooks. An amazing player, Hooks has scored more career points than any other men’s or women’s player in MAC history. She can do it all for the Bobcats, and this article provides more information on this star.
The women’s team enters the last week of the season with a record of 14-12. The team has been around the middle of the pack in the MAC this year.
Star players and guards often win in the tournament, and the Bobcats will be able to count on Hooks. Head Coach Bob Boldon has had great success at OHIO, and he will have the team ready.
The MAC tournament will be held March 9-12 in Cleveland.
If you can make it to the men’s or women’s tournament games in Cleveland, it is a very fun atmosphere. It’s just a few hours drive from an Athens, and games are always exciting.
If you can’t be there in person, the games will be shown on television or online. Your favorite Uptown Athens establishments will also likely show the games.
Both teams have a chance to make it back to the NCAA tournament. And once you are in the tournament, anything can happen in March Madness.
