The district is best known for graduate Joe Burrow, but it has other famous graduates. Maya Lin, for example, is an Athens High School graduate. Lin is a well-known artist who designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Best-selling author and nationally-known public health expert Atul Gawande is also an Athens High graduate. The Alexander Local School District – Also located in Athens County, the Alexander district does a great job teaching local students. The district consistently receives high scores for its work. The Catholic Parishes of Athens and Meigs Counties – The Catholic Parishes serve the people of Athens and Meigs counties through: St. Paul and Christ the King parishes in Athens, Sacred Heart in Pomeroy, Holy Cross in Glouster, & St. Mary of the Hills in Buchtel.

The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism – The Foundation’s programs and activities improve the quality of everyday life for people and families affected by autism. They do this along seven key dimensions that are critical to living each day fully. The Foundation aims to provide:
- a path for education and/or employment during the day
- opportunities for physical and social activity outside of work/school
- the tools to be safe, supported, and informed at all times.
