The Best Places to swim in Athens Ohio

When the weather is hot and humid, a day at a beach or pool is perfect. Here are some fun options for you if you live in Athens County.

Athens City Pool – The city pool is fairly new and is very nice. It offers water slides, lap swimming and wide range of amenities. Whether you live in an uptown Athens apartment or anywhere in the city, you can get to the pool easily.

The pool is located next to the Athens Community Center on East State Street. You can drive to it, take the bus, walk to it or even ride the bike path to it. The pool will be open this summer but be sure to check the website for hours.

Ohio University Aquatic Center – The Aquatic Center is open to university and community members throughout the year. The pool is great and there are options for diving and lap swimming. During the summer of 2021, the Aquatic Center will be open, but only for lap swimming. This website offers more information.

Scenic beaches, and even an Inflatable Water Park!

athens city poolStrouds Run State Park – Located just outside of Athens, this scenic park boasts a popular beach. If you haven’t been there yet, you need to visit. The beach is free, the park is beautiful, and it is a nice option for a lazy summer day.

Lake Snowden – Owned by Hocking College, Lake Snowden features a beach, swimming area and an inflatable water park. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day, the park is a short drive down U.S. Rt. 50/Ohio Rt. 32 from Athens. You can learn more about Lake Snowden at this website.

Burr Oak State Park – This amazing park features trails, a scenic lake, a lodge and a 500-foot public beach. The lodge includes an indoor swimming pool and the park even has an 18-hole disc golf course!

Nelsonville Aquatic Center – Located in Nelsonville on U.S. Rt. 33, this facility is very nice. If features impressive water slides and areas for swimming and relaxing. The hours for 2021 are not clear yet, so call ahead before you go.

Other local options – Also around Athens, many of the hotels have swimming pools for guests. Area residents can often buy passes or reserve the pools. Other state parks in the area also feature swimming, including Lake Logan in the Hocking Hills.
