What to do in Athens for Valentine’s Day (in the age of COVID)
With Valentine’s Day coming soon, here are a few ideas for celebrating in Athens, Ohio.
Flowers – We know it may be cliché, but flowers make Valentine’s Day special. You can buy them for that special someone at plenty of great shops in Athens. The local businesses include Jack Neal Floral and Hyacinth Bean Florist.
Dining Out – Athens also has a wide range of restaurants to choose from for Valentine’s Day. Most are open for dining in at this point in the pandemic, but it is always good to call ahead to see. Just don’t to take your date to the same place you always go to. Make it a special dinner. And if you are going to a nice restaurant, be sure to check to see if you need reservations. You really to have a lot of great choices. Uptown Athens is packed with restaurants near the Court Street apartments. You also have great dining options on East State Street, Richland Avenue and other parts of our fabulous city.
Dining In – You can impress your Valentine with a dinner you make in your apartment. Or, you can bring food in and serve it on nice plates (not paper!). Treat your Valentine to a fun night out
Movies – Athens is fortunate to have great, and affordable options for movies. You can walk to the movies from your Athens Ohio apartment at the Athena Cinema on Court Street. You can also visit the Athena Grand on East State Street or Movies 10 in Nelsonville. You won’t find cheaper movie tickets anywhere, and you can even take your date to the Fun Barn!
Bowling – It’s not a traditional Valentine’s Day activity, but it is fun and you will be remembered. Rollerbowl Lanes gives you the opportunity to impress your date with your bowling skills and fancy shoes.
Art –Why not take your date to a local art gallery for Valentine’s Day? It will be different and awesome, because Athens has some great art galleries. Two ideas for you are The Dairy Barn and the Kennedy Museum. (The only problem is you need to go to the galleries before 5 p.m.).
Outside activities – Depending on the weather, you can go for a hike, a Valentine’s stroll through Athens, or sledding.
If you don’t have a Valentine – You live in a college town! Go out and meet people. Visit the uptown Athens bars and restaurants. Ask your friends to set you up. Step up and ask the person you are interested in about a date. Take a chance. Be sure to have the best Valentine’s Day ever.
